Thought Crime
BBC: A consortium of technology companies and governments says it is “far exceeding” its targets for blocking terrorist propaganda online. At a meeting on Friday, hosted by Google, the group will say that 88,000 “hashes” of terrorism-related content have been … Weiterlesen

Transfixion
Bill McKibben in The Guardian: But [Trump]’s definitely costing us one precious thing, and that’s time. It rolls past every day as we stand necessarily transfixed by his transgressions, and since it can’t be rolled back there are victims who – whatever … Weiterlesen

Niagara Falls
Fifteen minutes outside Podgorica. The restaurant to the left is the Niagara. The river apparently dries up in August, so I was happy to be able to see it in June.

Partisan Memorial
The monument is a crypt with very little text other than the names of the dead. I found it powerful.

Petar I Petrović-Njegoš
This statue is quite visible at a traffic roundabout downtown. I feel I am walking the streets of Byzantium.

Saborni hram Hristovog Vaskresenja
The orthodox cathedral, which my hotel’s receptionist described as „the temple“ is beautiful, majestic, and right where it should be, in the midst of average income residences. I was lucky enough to visit while a mass was in session, and … Weiterlesen

Dubrovnik
Spent a long time talking with a New Zealand war photographer here. He’d spent years covering the Balkan wars. We talked about Kosovo, Chomsky, Christiane Amanpour, Donald Trump, the American public. He is without hope, but I have to say … Weiterlesen

New US ambassador to Germany under fire for rightwing support
Guardian: “In the past, Germany was fortunate to have had great US ambassadors who built bridges and did not do party politics,” said Metin Hakverdi, a Social Democrat delegate and member of the German-US parliamentary friendship group. “As a member … Weiterlesen
